Call for Posters: 11th Annual Africa Evidence Summit

Conference   |  past event  |  Jun 19 2023

Overview

CEGA and the Busara Center invite academics, practitioners, and international development organizations to submit a poster for the 11th annual Africa Evidence Summit in Nairobi, Kenya on June 19-20, 2023. We will highlight posters from both individuals and organizations in two different categories:

  1. Research:  Researchers are welcome to submit an abstract for a poster showcasing early-stage research (preferably using impact evaluation methods) on the continent or to disseminate policy-relevant research findings. We highly encourage African scholars to submit!
  2. Programs: We welcome individuals or organizations to showcase their work in advancing evidence-informed policy on the continent. This is also an opportunity for organizations to highlight capacity strengthening programs for scholars (and any relevant learnings), as well as highlight upcoming opportunities for African scholars.

Timeline

  • Apply by May 5th at 11:59 PM PST to have your poster at the Africa Evidence Summit. The application window to submit has closed.
  • Please email amyshipow@berkeley.edu with any submission questions.
  • Applicants will be notified of their acceptance in mid-May.

Please note that we do not have funding to support travel and accommodation costs for selected poster sessions.

Poster Presentation Details

Poster presenters are encouraged to have a 3-5 minute talk prepared about their work that they can share with session attendees. The talk should cover the research/capacity-building background as well as findings that can be easily understood by all attendees.

Poster Session Date/Time

  • June 19-20, 2023
  • Location: Movenpick Hotel

Poster Size and Appearance

  • Posters boards should be 90 cm wide by 120 cm high in portrait orientation. Posters should be prepared as a single poster rather than multiple posters pieced together.
  • For inspiration about how to design your poster, kindly refer to this website. Please note, you are not required to use this format.
  • Keep text brief. Report only key aspects of each section (methods, results, discussion, and policy or management implications). It is not advisable to display the entire text from a manuscript. Too much detail detracts from the primary message of the text.
  • Keep figures simple. Convey only one idea per figure, table, or photograph. Figures from publications, theses, or dissertations normally do not make good visuals. Charts and graphs should clearly show what you want the audience to see.
  • Text and figures should be readable to someone standing at a distance of six feet. Simple typefaces are preferable to fancy fonts. Bold type may be effective on headings.

Printing Instructions

  • Please print your poster before arriving at the conference. For participants located outside of Nairobi, Kenya, we recommend printing in your home country and traveling with your poster.
  • If you plan to print your poster in Nairobi, we recommend printing through the Head, Design, Brand & Film Production Company. The contact person is James Chunguli and his email is james@mycrimson.com. James needs at least 3-4 days before the event to have participants’ poster materials. He kindly requests that you send your poster by email in a pdf format.
  • The Head, Design, Brand & Film Production Company provided a quote of 5,500 KSH (or $40 USD) to print. You can pay James directly with either a credit card, cash, or bank transfer. This cost provides for the stand and delivery to the location.

    • We expect participants to cover the cost of printing, but if you need financial assistance, please email amyshipow@berkeley.edu.
  • The venue is not allowing us to use adhesive on the walls, so we will be providing poster stands, at no cost to participants.

Placing and Removing Your Poster

  • All presenters are asked to drop their poster off at the registration desk for staff to hang.
  • Upon selection, you will receive a number which will be your location within the poster session. All poster boards will be numbered, indicating assigned poster spaces for each session.
  • We will dispose of posters left behind at the conclusion of the session.
