OVERVIEW

APPLICATIONS TO SUBMIT A POSTER ARE CLOSED.

CEGA, the Network of Impact Evaluation Researchers in Africa (NIERA), the University of Rwanda (UR) invites academics, practitioners, and international development organizations to submit a poster for the Africa Evidence Summit to be held this summer in Kigali, Rwanda. We will highlight posters from both individuals and organizations in two different categories:

1) [Individual] Research Abstract: Researchers are welcome to submit a poster showcasing early-stage research or to disseminate policy-relevant research.

2) [Individual or Organization] Programmatic Learnings and Opportunities: We welcome individuals or organizations who have conducted capacity strengthening activities for African scholars to showcase their successes and learnings. This can include, but is not limited to: curriculum development in evaluation methods, mentorship programs, short term trainings, inclusive journal policies, etc. This is also an opportunity for organizations to highlight relevant upcoming opportunities for African scholars.

**It is possible that your project contains elements of both policy-relevant research and capacity-building processes to institutionalize rigorous evidence generation. For the purposes of this application, we will ask that you either select the category that most aligns with the abstract/programmatic description you are submitting, or select that you would like to be considered for both. **

  • Apply by April 25, 2022 at 11:59 PM PST to have your poster at the Africa Evidence Summit.
  • Please email amyshipow@berkeley.edu with any submission questions.
  • Applicants will be notified of their acceptance in early May.

Please note that we do not have funding to support travel and accommodation costs for selected poster sessions.

Poster Presentation Details

Poster presenters are encouraged to have a 3-5 minute talk prepared about their work that they can share with session attendees. The talk should cover the research/capacity-building background as well as findings that can be easily understood by all attendees.

Poster Session Date/Time

  • June 29-30, 2022
  • Location: Lemigo Hotel

Poster Size and Appearance

  • Please print your poster before arriving at the conference. For participants located outside of Rwanda, we recommend printing in your home country and traveling with your poster; but if you prefer to print in Rwanda, we will share recommended local print shops upon acceptance. Please have your poster with you on a thumb-drive to bring to both the print shop and the conference. We expect participants to cover the cost of printing, but if you need financial assistance, please email amyshipow@berkeley.edu.
  • Posters boards should be 48” wide by 60” high. Posters should be prepared as a single poster rather than multiple posters pieced together.
  • Posters printed on foam core will be much harder to hang up, please consider this when choosing the materials and format for your poster.
  • Keep text brief. Report only key aspects of each section (methods, results, discussion, and policy or management implications). It is not advisable to display the entire text from a manuscript. Too much detail detracts from the primary message of the text.
  • Keep figures simple. Convey only one idea per figure, table, or photograph. Figures from publications, theses, or dissertations normally do not make good visuals. Charts and graphs should clearly show what you want the audience to see.
  • Text and figures should be readable to someone standing at a distance of six feet. Simple typefaces are preferable to fancy fonts. Bold type may be effective on headings.

Placing and Removing Your Poster

  • All presenters are asked to drop their poster off at the registration desk for staff to hang.
  • Upon selection, you will receive a number which will be your location within the poster session. All poster boards will be numbered, indicating assigned poster spaces for each session. Poster assignments are available in the back pages of the onsite printed program.
  • We will dispose of posters left behind at the conclusion of the session.
