At CEGA, we believe that research should inform the allocation of scarce resources and the design of public policies that affect millions. With such high stakes, CEGA relies on a clear set of values to guide our work, partnerships, and communications. Our Core Values

Empathy: CEGA’s work is driven by a desire to improve the lives of people living in poverty. In all that we do, we demonstrate empathy and respect for those involved in our work, including the individuals and communities we aim to serve as well as colleagues and partners.

Rigor: CEGA strives to produce research and related outputs that meet a high standard of scientific rigor, policy relevance, and innovation. We do this by leveraging our extensive intellectual assets, strategically and responsibly mobilizing human and financial resources, building capacity, and partnering with others who bring complementary expertise.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (JEDI): JEDI help to bolster the relevance and impact of CEGA’s work while being important goals in their own right. CEGA promotes JEDI by investing in low and middle-income country (LMIC) scholars, making activities and resources accessible to diverse audiences, promoting open science, designing fair and inclusive recruitment processes, and ensuring equitable compensation and advancement.

Openness: CEGA is committed to openness and transparency. We encourage the use of open science tools and approaches, competitively allocate research funding and opportunities, report both successes and failures, maintain clear decision-making structures, and promote a culture of learning, creative thinking, and self-reflection.

Flexibility: CEGA’s success relies on our flexibility as a center. We are sector- and method-agnostic, allowing us to adapt to evolving needs and priorities of the communities we aim to serve. We maintain a flexible and accommodating office environment which helps us recruit, support, and retain talented staff.

CEGA Research Transparency Policy

CEGA recognizes that for research to be deemed credible, it must be conducted in a transparent and reproducible manner. Aligning with the principles of research transparency and reproducibility dictates that researchers clearly and precisely document, report, and share the data, materials, methods, and analytical decisions used during the course of a project in ways that facilitate replication, collaboration, and reuse.

Event Code of Conduct

CEGA is committed to maintaining a harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression, disability, age, appearance, religion, or other group status. We do not tolerate the harassment of staff, students, or event participants in any form. Anyone violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled at the Center’s discretion.

Photo Policy

CEGA uses photos from the field on our website, in printed materials, and in presentations. The majority of these
photos do not come from professional photographers, but from students and staff working in field settings. Our
ability to publish photos from multiple contributors is an asset, but it requires faculty, staff, and students to be
highly conscientious when taking photographs, and mindful of the fact that photographs may be used later in
publications.
