Cross-Country Workshop on Impact Evaluation of HIV/AIDS Programs in Africa

Health & Psychology Training   |  past event  |  Mar 09 2009

CEGA collaborated with the World Bank’s Africa Region, Human Sciences Research Council,Republic of South Africa, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to host this multi-country HIV/AIDS Impact Evaluation workshop. Held in Cape Town, South Africa, March 9-13, the workshop sought to: build client country capacity for evidence-based HIV/AIDS program design and implementation; create a community of practice of HIV government and project teams on impact evaluation; and share knowledge and experiences from existing impact evaluation studies on HIV/AIDS responses in Africa.

Nine teams (Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, and Swaziland) developed draft concept notes outlining proposed impact evaluation studies. These proposals respond to the evidence gaps in their national HIV/AIDS responses. Based on the results of the workshop evaluation and the high quality of draft concept notes prepared by country teams, participants knowledge and skills were improved.
