The Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) is pleased to announce the 2019 Spring Development Economic Challenge Grants. CEGA will offer two types of awards to support original research led by UC Berkeley PhD students in the Economics department:
Proposed research must involve rigorous evaluation of strategies for poverty alleviation in low- and middle- income countries. Grants may be used to cover travel and lodging, data collection, or data analysis. Grant funds may not be used for student stipends.
Deadline: April 12th, 2019
Eligibility Criteria:
Only doctoral students in the Economics department at UC Berkeley can apply. Students from other departments can be included in the proposal, but the project must be led by a student in the Econ department.
Each application must include a nomination from a UC Berkeley faculty sponsor. The nomination should be emailed to corey.murray@berkeley.edu by the submission deadline (simply stating “I have reviewed the proposed research and agree to nominate the applicant for this award”).
If you applied for a previous round of this challenge, regardless of whether you were awarded funding or not you are still eligible to reapply either for the same or a different project.
Application Process:
Please complete the Application Form. Applications should be no more than two pages, describe the research to be conducted, and include a budget. All materials should be submitted in a single PDF file using the online platform “Submittable.”
Please email Corey Murray (corey.murray@berkeley.edu) with any inquiries.
