Cognitive Load and Naivete

Health & Psychology United States of America

This project explores one potential effect of decreased mental bandwidth, a psychological consequence of poverty. In particular, it looks at whether subjects with decreased bandwidth – as induced via a cognitive load task – are less sophisticated about their s impatience (i.e. present bias). This is an important effect to investigate, as decreased sophistication can lead to potentially large welfare losses, as measured from one’s long-run perspective (Laibson 2015).
