Led by Raul Sanchez de la Sierra in partnership with USAID, researchers are currently designing an RCT to develop estimates of the cost effectiveness of digital cash transfers of multiple sizes on a wide range of development outcomes relevant to USAID in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The aim of this exercise is to develop a generalized idea of the impact of cash transfers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo against which current and future USAID programming in the region can be compared. In addition to studying many of the general outcomes of interest present in the other DIL cash studies, this project will also focus on the effectiveness of cash transfers in reducing youth joining armed groups. In addition to the cash transfer exercise, researchers will study a youth employment program in order to compare its cost effectiveness with digital cash transfers.
