Shanthi Manian

Shanthi Manian is a development economist and an Assistant Professor at Washington State University. She uses RCTs, lab-in-the-field experiments, and natural experiments to study intersections of global health, gender, and development. She has particularly focused on the health decisions of vulnerable women, gender discrimination in developing country labor markets, and cognitive constraints among the poor. She has previous or ongoing experiments in Ethiopia, Kenya, the Philippines, and Senegal. She received her PhD in economics from UC San Diego and her BSFS from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
