Sarobidy Rakotonarivo

Senior Research Fellow at the University of Antananarivo; Founder of Mitsilo

Sarobidy Rakotonarivo is a senior research fellow at the University of Antananarivo and the founder of Mitsilo, a research lab advancing interdisciplinary social science in Madagascar. She holds a doctoral degree in environmental socioeconomics from Bangor University and the University of Copenhagen and a Master of Science in sustainable tropical forestry. Her research applies microeconomics and mixed-methods impact evaluation to examine how climate initiatives affect people and biodiversity, and how rigorous evidence can inform more equitable and effective programs. She currently leads internationally funded research projects on climate-smart agriculture, forest restoration, climate-related migration and equitable protected-area governance, and works with policymakers and practitioners to translate evidence into action. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and is a recipient of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa Award.
