Samuel Oti

Senior Program Specialist, International Development Research Centre (IDRC)

Sam Oti is a Senior Program Specialist based at the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office of Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC). His background is in clinical medicine and public health. Prior to joining IDRC, Sam was theme leader for the non-communicable disease (NCD) research program at the top ranked global health think tank in Africa – the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC). At APHRC, Sam published pioneering research on the rising burden of NCD among the poorest of the poor – Africa’s slum population. This work propelled Sam into becoming a key policy influencer at national and regional platforms such as Kenya’s National NCD Poverty Commission and the East Africa NCD Alliance. Prior to APHRC, Sam provided technical support to USAID/PEPFAR funded programmes for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in South Africa. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (UK) and co-founder of the Network of Impact Evaluation Researchers in Africa.
