Robert Heilmayr
Robert Heilmayr is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara’s Environmental Studies Program and the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. He also serves as the director of the Land and Freshwater Program at the Environmental Markets Lab. In his research, Robert combines emerging methods of causal inference from economics with data made possible through advances in Earth observation to answer pressing questions about how society conserves biodiversity. Robert’s current research explores the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of nonstate policies to end deforestation (Paraguay and Indonesia) and payments incentivizing natural climate solutions (Chile and Brazil). His research has been published in top scientific journals, including Science, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Climate Change, and The Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.
