Lindsey Novak

Lindsey Novak is an Assistant Professor at Reed College. Her research and teaching interests are at the intersection of international economic development, health, and gender. Lindsey’s research examines how social norms impact economic outcomes and how economic conditions shape those norms. Her topics of expertise are female genital cutting, polygamy, intimate partner violence, and food consumption in Sub-Saharan Africa. Lindsey received her PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota in 2017. Before starting her PhD, she worked at The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) in New Delhi, India. She obtained her master’s degree in International Economics from The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and her bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from Texas A&M University. Before joining Reed College she was an Assistant Professor at Colby College
