Josh Martin

Josh Martin is the director of CEGA’s Peace Per Dollar initiative, a new effort dedicated to finding and promoting cost-effective solutions to violent conflict. He holds concurrent roles at UNICEF and Google in applied social science research and is a co-founder at the behavioral strategy advisory firm Venn Advisors.

Josh is a leading expert in behavioral science applied to conflict and fragility. Having established and led the international governance team at ideas42 as managing director, he then served as executive director of Beyond Conflict. In recent years he has provided strategic advice and training to numerous UN entities in the peace and security pillar on leveraging behavioral science through his work with the Executive Office of the Secretary General and the Office of Counter Terrorism. He has also advised Save the Children’s Center for Utilizing Behavioral Insights for Children, German development cooperation agencies, and the Berghof Foundation. Earlier in his career, he was a policy advisor in Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Planning and Development, a consultant on governance and private sector development at the World Bank, a program manager at the peace-building NGO Cordoba Initiative and the inaugural research specialist at the Empirical Studies of Conflict project. Josh has a master’s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and speaks fluent Arabic, Hebrew, and French.
