Emma Riley

Emma Riley is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Michigan. Her research is in development economics, with a regional focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, and primarily utilizes large-scale field experiments. Her research concentrates on two broad topics. The first examines the effects of digital financial services on entrepreneurs and households. The second studies the impact of anti-poverty programs, such as cash transfers and graduation programs, on household welfare and women’s empowerment.

Riley joined UW in 2021 after completing a Junior Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford. Riley earned her doctorate in Economics from the University of Oxford in 2019.
