[postponed] 9th Annual EASST Summit

The 2020 EASST Summit has been postponsed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We are exploring hosting remote activities (such as presentations and panels via zoom) in the meantime, before the situation clears up enough for us to host the summit in person. We will update this page as this develops.

The East Africa Social Science Translation (EASST) Collaborative, managed by the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) at UC Berkeley, is holding its 9th Annual EASST Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Over the past nine years, EASST has built a robust network of 34 talented East African scholars conducting rigorous impact evaluations of social programs in the region. The summit provides a forum for highlighting this locally generated research alongside the research of U.S.-based academics working in East Africa, while facilitating a dialogue between policy makers, practitioners, and researchers on opportunities for evidence-informed policymaking in East Africa.

EASST is excited to collaborate with local partner institutions to host the event, including the Network of Impact Evaluation Researchers in Africa and the Economic Social Research Foundation.  EASST is also partnering with CEGA’s Digital Credit Observatory (DCO) to feature digital finance and consumer protection-focused research and policy discussions. The DCO supports a coordinated portfolio of rigorous research on the impacts—both positive and negative—of digital credit products in emerging markets, and the effectiveness of related consumer protection measures. The EASST Summit provides a venue to share emerging digital credit evidence and discuss how this evidence can inform finance and regulatory policy in East Africa and beyond.
