Evidence-based research can help to achieve development goals, minimize environmental costs, and empower communities to adapt and thrive in a world increasingly impacted by climate change.
Climate change is a major barrier to global development that risks setting back progress by decades. Many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are particularly vulnerable to climate shocks and are unprepared to respond to its impacts. Alongside global efforts toward climate change mitigation and adaptation, there is a need for a close examination of the causes and effects of climate change in developing contexts.
Rigorous research can shed light on the nuanced interaction of climate change and health, food security, livelihoods, conflict and energy use, as well as uncover interventions and tools to make communities resilient to climate change. CEGA is activating researchers across fields of environmental science, economics, public health and engineering to answer key policy questions and generate rigorous evidence to advise policymakers on effective ways to tackle climate change.
