Intern, Internal Operations (Fall 2024)

The Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) is hiring an Internal Operations Intern (15-20 hours/week) to support centerwide operations in people operations/human resources, financial management, office management, and fundraising. The paid internship will start in August 2024 and end in December 2024, with the possibility to renew for the spring 2025 semester.

We generate insights that decision-makers can use to improve policies, programs, and people’s lives. Our best-in-class academic network includes nearly 200 faculty, 80 scholars from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)—primarily from East and West Africa—and hundreds of graduate students from diverse academic disciplines who produce rigorous evidence about what works to expand education, health, and economic opportunities for people living in poverty. Position Overview

The intern will work with staff, students, and faculty across the center to assist with vital centerwide operational processes through supporting HR functions such as recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement, aiding in knowledge and data management, managing office supplies and facilities, and assisting with donor outreach and event planning. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of recruitment, data management principles, and office administration. They should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and a strong desire and willingness to learn new systems. They will report to the CEGA Senior Associate for Operations and People.

Responsibilities

General Operations and Office Management

  • Support management of departmental email accounts (Special Purpose Accounts/SPAs)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new operational procedures and “best practices”
  • Assist with office management and procurement/maintenance of office supplies and inventory
  • Assist with the organization of office events and meetings, including room bookings
  • Support general administrative and other duties as assigned

People Operations

  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including advertising and interview scheduling
  • Support onboarding process new hires, including coordinating orientation and training sessions
  • Assist in maintaining accurate employee records
  • Help organize employee engagement activities and events

Knowledge Management

  • Assist with documentation, revision, and organization of internal processes and resources
  • Help maintain and update knowledge repositories and databases, including Salesforce and Confluence

Fundraising Support

  • Assist in maintaining donor databases and tracking donations
  • Conduct research on potential donors and funding opportunities
  • Support the development of fundraising and other materials
  • Help organize and coordinate fundraising events and campaigns

Programmatic/Research Support

  • Provide limited ad-hoc support in program management and research duties with various teams across the center (up to 5 hours per week)

Essential Qualifications

  • UC Berkeley student (work-study preferred but not required)
  • Ability to work part-time (2-5 hours per week) in-person at our office on the UC Berkeley campus
  • Relevant operations/organizational planning experience
  • Exposure to development economics, social science research, and/or policy-making
  • Familiarity with relevant tools and platforms, including Salesforce, G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Submittable
  • Experience cleaning and analyzing data
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, hard worker

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience creating data visualizations and using business intelligence platforms like AirTable, Tableau, and ArcGIS
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design
  • Familiarity with coding languages such as R, Python, STATA

Compensation

CEGA compensates undergraduate interns (i.e., undergraduate students, bachelor degree holders, or equivalent) at $21/hour and graduate student interns (graduate students, graduate degree holders, or equivalent) at $26/hour
