Access to agricultural technology, information, and financial services can help move millions of smallholder farmers out of poverty.
Enabling inclusive agricultural systems remains one of the cornerstones of the fight against global poverty. However, some of the most essential components of productive farming systems – including access to credit, insurance, agricultural inputs, and markets – underperform throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. CEGA collaborates with donors, businesses, international NGOs, and local organizations to identify the projects and strategies that most successfully unlock the potential of agriculture across the developing world. The ongoing threat of climate change increases the urgency of our work, with small farming communities—including a disproportionate number of women and girls—among the most vulnerable to heavy rainfall, drought, pests, and other environmental stressors. Ultimately, CEGA seeks to generate rigorous evidence that can improve decision-making on the part of key agricultural stakeholders to support profitable farming systems and achieve a future without hunger and further environmental degradation.
