Program Associate/Manager, Health, Economics, & Women's Empowerment

The Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) is a hub for research on global development, with a network of over 60 academic researchers extending across the University of California, Stanford University, and the University of Washington. Our faculty affiliates design and test solutions for the problems of poverty, generating actionable evidence for policy-makers in less developed countries. Using rigorous field trials, behavioral experiments, and tools from data science, we measure and maximize the impacts of economic development programs throughout the world.

CEGA seeks a part-time Program Associate/Manager to support the Center’s Behavioral Economics in Reproductive Health Initiative (BERI). This is a challenging opportunity for candidates who are interested in behavioral economics, research administration, public health, women's empowerment and global development. 

This is a part-time contracted appointment with the potential for growth and contract extension. Title and salary will be commensurate with experience. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage relationships with donors; identify funding opportunities with the opportunity to grow the program; draft grant proposals. 

  • Manage budgets and financial tracking for the initiative; draft programmatic and financial reports. 

  • Work with faculty and staff to support research projects carried out in developing countries, providing assistance with contracts and grants, including coordinating sub-awards to field partners, human subjects protection compliance, invoicing and payments, and reporting to donors. 

  • Manage research dissemination efforts, including presenting on research initiatives, identifying publication outlets, authoring articles and blogs related to research findings, conceptualizing briefing materials and managing their production, updating program websites, and managing relationships with external dissemination partners. 

  • Organize research events including developing timelines, budgets, agenda, and materials; coordinating media capture; overseeing logistics.  

  • Develop expertise in subject matter (Family Planning/Reproductive Health, Behavioral Economics, Randomized Evaluations); stay up-to-date on relevant research and policy developments. 

  • Solicit and integrate insights from faculty and leadership to design, implement, and evaluate program(s).  

  • Participate in center-wide management activities, internal work groups, performance evaluation, process documentation, and strategic planning, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

 

  • Requires a BA/BS in Economics,International Affairs,Public Administration, Public Health, Public Policy,or related field.   

  • 2-5years of relevant professional experience. 

  • Self-directed, intrinsically motivated; proven capacity to manage work independently, multitask and be responsive to time-sensitive deadlines. 

  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of evidence-based policy-making. 

  • Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-anticipation and -solving, and customer service; ability to independently investigate solutions to challenges and anticipate leadership needs. 

  • Demonstrated experience in financial managementincludingbudget creation, financial forecasting,and tracking expenses.  

  • Well-organized, with strong administrative skills and outstanding attention to detail.  

  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills in working with colleagues at all levels. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work diplomatically with diverse constituencies. 

  • Ability to remain flexible and able to adapt to change. 

  • Sense of humor with a positive attitude in approaching challenges and uncertainty.
