With generous support from Charles and Feralee Levin, the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) is pleased to announce the 2017 Levin Family Seed Grants. CEGA will offer 3 seed grants of up to $2,000 for PhD students conducting original research during Summer 2017. Winners will be selected by an expert committee.
Proposed research must involve rigorous evaluation of strategies for poverty alleviation in low- and middle-income countries. Grants may be used to cover field-related expenses (such as travel and lodging), data collection or acquisition, and data analysis. Grant funds may not be used for student stipends. Awards are limited to one per applicant per academic year.
Closing DateJun 2, 2017 12:00 am PDT
All UC Berkeley PhD students are eligible to apply. While we welcome applications from any department, the vast majority of past winners have been from economics, political science, business, public health, environmental science, engineering, computer science, and other quantitative disciplines.
Each applicant must be nominated by a CEGA Berkeley Affiliate sponsor. Very brief nominations should be emailed to Emily.Martin@berkeley.edu by the submission deadline (simply stating "I have reviewed the proposed research and agree to nominate the applicant for this award.")
By Friday, June 2, 2016 at 11:59 pm PST, please submit a single PDF file through our Submittable site that includes the following:
1. Completed project application form and budget template
2. A short project proposal (2 pages or less, 12 point font)
Additionally, please have your CEGA Affiliate sponsor email their nomination to Emily.Martin@berkeley.edu prior to the deadline.
Applicants will be informed of the grant committee’s decision by Wednesday, June 14, 2017.
