1st Annual CEGA Research Day

On October 30, 2009 CEGA will host its first UC-wide Research Day, with four talks by faculty members from UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, UC Los Angeles, and UC San Diego. The event starts at 9:30 am in the Men's Faculty Club.

New Gates-Funded Africa Agricultural Reporting Project

March 2009 - CEGA will participate in a new two-year grant to the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism to improve media coverage of agricultural development issues in Africa.

CEGA Co-Sponsors Meeting on Agricultural Development

CEGA and the African Economics Research Consortium are jointly organizing a conference on research frontiers in Agriculture for Development in Sub-Saharan Africa, to be held in Mombassa, Kenya on May 27-28 2009.

2009 Call for Submitted Papers

CEGA, in partnership with the African Economics Research Consortium (AERC), is currently organizing a conference on Research Frontiers in Agriculture for Development in Sub-Saharan Africa, to be held May 27-28th 2009 in Mombassa, Kenya. In all, 12 papers will be selected based on a competitive process. The deadline for submission is March 31st 2009. View the Call for Papers for more details.

Impact Evaluation Course in Fall 2008

This semester CEGA is sponsoring a DeCal course on Global Poverty and Impact Evaluation. UC Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in poverty alleviation are encouraged to enroll.

CEGA Hosts WGAPE

On December 5-6 2008, CEGA will host the Fall 2008 conference of the Working Group in African Political Economy (WGAPE). The conference agenda and papers can be found here.

Fall 2008

$36 million commitment announced at Clinton Initiative for Tostan's Programs

Tostan, a CEGA Partner, will scale up its Community Empowerment Program (CEP) as part of a 2008 commitment at the Clinton Global Initiative. The program ensures that marginalized groups, notably women and girls, have the requisite knowledge to access 21st century pathways to sustainable development. CEGA faculty member David Levine will help design the rigorous impact evaluations for these interventions.

Big Commitment for Global Deworming

As part of the 2008 Clinton Global Initiative, a $12 million commitment was announced for school-based deworming programs, to deworm 10 million children. The findings of research by CEGA Director Edward Miguel and colleagues at J-PAL played a critical role in bringing this issue to the forefront.

CEGA has officially launched

On April 17 2008, CEGA held a mini-symposium to mark the launch of our new global development center. We were joined by Ariel Fiszbein, the World Bank's Chief Economist for Human Development, and several other distinguished guests. Read about the event at UC Berkeley's NewsCenter.
