Summer Institute – Transparency and Reproducibility Methods for Social Science Research

Led by the Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in the Social Sciences (BITSS), this workshop provides participants with an overview of cutting-edge mechanisms for transparent and reproducible social science. The curriculum is taught by academic leaders in the transparency movement, and there will be space for collaborative work and hands-on skill building. Applications for participation must be submitted by March 31, 2016.

Institutionalizing Impact Evaluation at the IDB

The Berkeley-IDB Impact Evaluation Collaborative (BIC) will wrap up the second year of the program by conducting a follow-up training July 27-31, 2015 on UC Berkeley's campus. 15 participants representing 6 of the evaluation teams that originally attended the 2-week BIC Workshop in July 2014 will return to Berkeley for further training and continued collaboration with their faculty mentors.

Impact Evaluation for Agriculture

The CEGA-JPAL Agricultural Technology Adoption Initiative (ATAI) sponsored a workshop on impact evaluation hosted by ICRAF in Nairobi, Kenya from January 23-26, 2012. The conference was organized in partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and discussed innovative techniques in impact evaluation for agricultural development.

Enhancing Implementation Science: Program Planning, Scale-up, and Evaluation

In this two-day workshop, participants learned how to apply an implementation science framework to improve HIV prevention, treatment and care programs. Drawing faculty from academia, international institutions, and government agencies, as well as a number of disciplines (from epidemiology to social, economic and management sciences), this workshop gave participants the benefit of a variety of perspectives.

The Asia Foundation Impact Evaluation Workshop

In 2010, CEGA partnered with The Asia Foundation and the Civil Service College (CSC) in Singapore to host a four-day workshop on the economic analysis of social programs. The workshop, held March 23-26 on the CSC campus, was led by faculty, students and staff from UC Berkeley and UC San Diego. The CSC is a statutory board under the Public Service Division, Prime Minister's Office, with a mission to develop people for quality public service.

Impact Evaluation Workshop for the Rwanda School of Public Health

This technical workshop, hosted by CEGA and the World Bank, offered training on impact evaluation methods and statistical analysis for the Rwanda School of Public Health team. Lessons – which were both lecture and problem-based – were tailored to the team’s evaluation of the Rwandan performance-based contracting scheme for general health and HIV/AIDS services.

Impact Evaluation Designs for Male Circumcision

This workshop focused on the use of male circumcision as an HIV prevention intervention. It aimed to highlight lessons learn from other countries engaged in male circumcision scale-up, discuss cross-cutting operational issues, harmonize data collection, and develop rigorous impact evaluations for scale-up programs.

Cross-Country Workshop on Impact Evaluation of HIV/AIDS Programs in Africa

This multi-country HIV/AIDS Impact Evaluation workshop sought to: build client country capacity for evidence-based HIV/AIDS program design and implementation; create a community of practice of HIV government and project teams on impact evaluation; and share knowledge and experiences from existing impact evaluation studies on HIV/AIDS responses in Africa.

Workshop on Impact Assessment in Public Health

This three day workshop included an introduction to the theory and the basics of impact assessment (experimental design, basic statistics, causal inference) as well as analysis of experiments (randomization, differences in different, discontinuity of the regression, the matching score propensity) as applied to public health interventions.
